Packing for the Season

Next week is our first tournament preparing for the UPA college series. I'll use this weekend to setup my Ultimate kit for the season. This post is a simple question of what should I be packing and some hope for comments on what else to pack.

You may want to take some cleats with you.

Raw dogging it, eh? Who do you think you are, the Worm?

Add:

- printed version of the rules (11th edition). Always good to have a set in your bag for quick reference.

- maps, directions, tourney details. Anything on where you're staying and playing and how to get there.

- entertainment for the road trip. (Covered to some extent in your Dec. 15 post)

Subtract:

- Apples... unless you leave on all stickers identifying where they're from (and if they're not from the US or Canada, could be confiscated). Border guards can be anal when it comes to fruit.

a few items on the list require some translation ...

not sure if many of our neighbours to the south know what ye ol "toque" is. bascially, a toque is a winter hat. i tend to adhere to a more strict definition, whereby it must have a pom-pom on top to qualify as a real toque. otherwise it's simply a wooly hat.

secondly, the term "hoodie" isn't recognized by most saskatchewanians. there, a hoodie is called a "bunny hug", for all the obvious reasons.

I'd add Trident or any other minty, teeth cleaning gum. Keeps things nice and fresh all car ride/tournament long!

What do you use climbing chalk for?

I like climbing chalk to dry my hands either from sweat, sunscreen, or anything wet. Lots of people rub grass or dirt, and that's what I use when I don't have the chalk, but the chalk is definitely better.

I've also heard people use baby powder to prevent chaffing. Just don't mix this up with your chalk.

michael smith has some much sweeter pics you could use. I enjoy these:

Quite the list. Much more prepared than I ever was/will be. I do pack chapstick, tape and arnica though. If you dont know about arnica, you better axe somebody. What college do you play for?

Gold Bond works wonders, especially in the summer time.

Personally, I always bring pickles. Lots of potassium and sodium to help prevent cramps. A pickle or two during the day and a swig or two of juice do wonders.

Also bring energy drinks. Usually go 1/2 an energy drink and then top it off with water + gatorade powder in a nalgene.

There was some guy in Australia promoting his own hand chalk mini pouche specially made for frisbee players. It even came with an elastic adjustable belt that you could strap around your waist. It was really cool.

weed (and a TM)? do ultimate players smoke weed anymore?

Gold Bond is an excellent substitute for climbing chalk. As added benefit, it creates a great cooling sensation.
